New York has recently enacted wide ranging changes in the collection and enforcement of child support obligations.
Failure to pay child support can result in the suspension or revocation of any type of license, including a drivers' license, real estate license, insurance license, professional license, recreational license, etc.
Support Collection Units (divisions of the Family Courts) can initiate proceedings to collect support with new powers to put liens on property and garnish wages.
Anyone with an existing child support order may be entitled to an automatic increase in child support based upon changes in the Consumer's Price Index simply by requesting the Support Collection Unit to review the support order.
