Important Notice: New Regulations Require Testing of Private Wells if Property Sold

The Connecticut Department of Public Health recently adopted new regulations effective December 30, 1996 concerning the testing of water quality in private residential wells.

The regulations require that the water quality of all new private residential wells be analyzed by an approved laboratory and the results be approved by the local director of health before the well may be used for domestic purposes. As to existing private residential wells, water quality must be analyzed "within six (6) months of the sale of the property served" by the well, with results forwarded to the local director of health within thirty (30) days of the completion of the test.
