OSHA Alert: Utah Shifts to Federally Mandated Eight Hour Reporting Requirement

In Utah, the federal OSHA regulations are implemented through the Utah Occupational Safety and Health branch ("UOSH"). UOSH recently announced that it is moving from 12-hour to 8-hour oral reporting for deaths or serious injuries. The federal rule has long required employers to orally report deaths or serious injuries within eight hours. Utah previously followed a 12-hour reporting rule but has recently elected to conform with the federal rule and move to the 8-hour reporting requirement. Oral reports of deaths or serious injuries can be made to (801) 530-6901 during regular business hours, or after regular business hours to other numbers provided in Utah Administrative Code, Section 614-1-5 (this code section can be viewed at UOSH's web page www.uosh.utah.gov).
