OSHA regulations require that each employer maintain a log and summary of all recordable occupational injuries and illnesses for each establishment operated by the employer. The summary portion of that log must be posted every year between February 1 and March 1 in a conspicuous location normally used for such postings.
Although the log need not be kept during the year on OSHA form 200, the employer must summarize each year's injuries and illnesses for posting using that form. If no injuries or illnesses occurred in the year, the form must be posted with zeroes on the "total" line. The person who oversees preparation of the form must sign it certifying the summary is true and complete. Failure to post a copy of the summary may result in the issuance of penalties by OSHA.
